November 8th Update
My good buddy and neighbor Kirk Whetherby shot a
nice 4 point buck this evening in the stand we set up on Sunday
afternoon. The stand is about 60 feet behind our back fence. The
family and I have been seeing a lot of bucks and deer sign the last few
weeks - I'm glad Kirk was able to harvest this excellent Whitetail.
Kirk grabbed me as soon as I hit the driveway
after work and we tracked and field dressed this deer after impatiently
waiting for Kirk's brother Wayne.
The Tracking party was Me, Kirk, Kirks brother
Wayne and their friend Bigfoot. We carried the deer out Indian
style and I performed the field dressing ceremony.
Kirk and I talk deer every time we talk and we are
both constantly watching the local sign - so i think this is a good
demonstration of a communal hunt. We really have these local
deer patterns down and we were both confident that he would see a nice
buck. This deer is small for the area but still a nice deer with a
tall rack.
This deer was shot with a bow at 4:30 Eastern.
The arrow entered high vital area, penetrated the heart and was slowed
by a rib prior to exit. The buck ran about 30 yards before laying
down. We will enjoy this Venison over the coming winter and
remember the good times we shared during this harvest.
